Why I applied for a residency. – To develop skills that I will carry forward in my career as a clinical pharmacist – To gain experience working on a multi-disciplinary health care team.
What type of learner am I. – Visual : I often use diagrams to simplify complicated concepts. – Logical: I like grouping and organizing things into algorithms and tables. – Interpersonal: discussing cases/concepts in a group
What are my interest areas? – Nephrology – Cardiology
What are my career goals? – To establish a clinical practice area of my own and to become an “expert” in this area. – To become a preceptor/mentor to pharmacy students. – To promote the role of a pharmacist as part of an interdisciplinary health care team
What are my personal learning goals? – To develop my own process for assessing, treating and monitoring patients. – To improve my presentation skills through execution of case presentations, journal clubs, in-services etc. – To attain a higher level of knowledge in infectious disease concepts (antibiotic dosing, empiric treatment, pharmacokinetic monitoring, resistance patterns, treatment guidelines, interpreting cultures and sensitivities). – To attain a higher level of knowledge in pharmacokinetic dosing (phenytoin, vancomycin, aminoglycosides, digoxin, lithium) – To develop my research skills (particularly data collection/ analysis and preparation of a manuscript for publication).
